The Center for Ballet Arts is home to the Ballet Arts Ensemble (BAE), is a pre-professional performance company.
The Ensemble gives students the opportunity to further their ballet experience outside of their regular class curriculum, with a focus on performance. BAE members are invited to participate in at least two numbers in the BAE Fall Concert and at least one additional ballet number in the Center’s Spring Recital.
Ballet Arts Ensemble members have been accepted to some of the nation’s foremost summer dance programs including American Ballet Theatre, the Joffrey Ballet School, the Rock School of Pennsylvania, the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Boston Ballet, North Carolina School of the Arts, Ballet Metropolitan, San Francisco Ballet, and Jacob’s Pillow; eight dancers from the Center for Ballet Arts have been chosen for the prestigious Virginia’s Governor’s’ School. BAE alumni have danced professionally with the Washington Ballet, Bowen McCauley Dance Company, Dancin’ Unlimited Jazz Dance Company, LehrerDance, and more. The BAE was a member of the South Eastern Regional Ballet Association (SERBA) from 2001-2011 and a founding member of the Virginia Dance Coalition (VADC).
Students age 14 and up in Intermediate Pointe/Ballet V and higher are eligible for the Ballet Arts Ensemble. Prior participation in the Junior Ensemble is encouraged but not required. Members of the BAE must take a minimum of six classes, including at least three ballet/pointe classes, one modern class, and one conditioning class.
