On Tuesday, March 1st, CBA will align with FCPS guidelines for masking in our studio classrooms. We continue to highly encourage that unvaccinated and/or immunocompromised students continue to wear masks at all times. Parents of fully vaccinated students may decide for themselves whether their dancer will remain masked in classes/rehearsals. CBA Faculty members will continue to mask at all times. We also continue to require masks for everyone in the lobby areas of CBA.
Rehearsals are underway for Concert 2022, featuring Coppelia. We look forward to presenting CBA dancers onstage at The Hylton Performing Arts Center on June 15th and 16th. Dress Rehearsals will be held at the theatre on Monday and Tuesday, June 13th and 14th. Tickets will be available online, by phone or at the box office. Costume balances for Concert 2022 will be sent out by invoice. Most costumes are expected to arrive in April and will be sent home once the balance has been paid. Please be reminded that March tuition is now due. A late fee will be added after the 10th of the month. CBA will offer a fully Intensive Summer Program for five weeks - July 5th through August 6th. We are excited to announce that former Bowen-McCauley dancer, Patrick Green will teach Adv./Int. Ballet classes this summer on Fridays and to assist with Pas de Deux Class. Ballet Master, Dustin Kimball will choreograph a new ballet for the BAE during Repertoire classes. Plans are also in order for a BAE trip to NYC, at the conclusion of the Summer Session. We encourage all BAE members and prospects to attend all five weeks in order to engage in these opportunities! Children’s Morning Dance Camps are available for children ages 3 through 10. Camps are 1 ½ to 2 ½ hours long, depending on the age level. It is suggested that Ballet IIC students prepare for beginning Pre-Pointe in the fall, by attending Summer Intensive Camp E. Pointe students should continue training in the summer by attending Summer Intensive Camps B, C, D. Feel free to contact the front desk regarding Summer Camp placements for you CBA dancer. A Sign-up Genius will become available for registration beginning after Spring Break. Saturday, Jan. 29

Happy New Year! Best wishes to you and your family for the year 2022. We hope that all enjoyed a happy, healthy and meaningful holiday season. We look forward to seeing you all back in classes beginning Monday, January 3. Bearing in mind the Omicron virus surge, please continue to be respectful to all at CBA by notifying us of any possible exposure to the virus. Do not attend classes for five days (if asymptomatic) or present a negative COVID test, after air travel. If your child has been vaccinated since September, 2021, please update the COVID waiver. We will email a new one for you to fill out and sign. In situations of inclement weather, CBA does not always close in compliance with Fairfax County Schools (if snow/ice melts by afternoon). A studio-wide email will be sent out to notify you of closure. Classes missed due to ice/snow will be made up with rehearsal time in the spring. PERFORMANCE ANNOUNCEMENTS January is the time that plans are set for the Spring Concert/Recital 2022. The featured ballet will be Coppelia, which has not been performed at CBA since 2014! Performances are planned to be held at Hylton Performing Arts Center on Wednesday, June 15 and Thursday, June 16. All students (with the exception of Adult/Teen Ballet class) are encouraged to perform. Those wishing to do so, must submit a costume deposit of $50 per/class, per/costume. For example: a student enrolled in Ballet, Tap and Jazz will need to submit a deposit of $150, (if they wish to perform each dance piece in the show). Remember, it is not required, but encouraged. Performing is an important aspect of a students’ overall dance education. The costume deposit is due by January 22. A costume order contract must be completed along with the costume deposit payment. Costumes will run from $60 to $80 each - the balance will be due by April 23. A performance fee of $50 per/ student will be due by February 12. We would like to extend congratulations to all dancers who participated in this year's production of “Nutcracker In A Nutshell”. The performances came off beautifully, due to the hard work and dedication of the dancers, as well as the many volunteers who worked throughout the holiday season to contribute to the success of “The Nutcracker”. We appreciate the backing by the BAE Parents’ Guild, headed by Emily Allen-Shaw and the support of the CBA family as a whole. Special thanks go to Harriet Church, Jamie Frysinger, Tijana Levi, Elizabeth Mansfield, Tierre Price, Tricia Romonoski, and other volunteers for exceptional fundraising efforts at the theatre. Without the tireless efforts of Swapna Gogineni, Casey Hagopian, Deborah Porras, Jen Wolff and others, our Nutcracker costumes would not have dazzled! NUTCRACKER NEWS

Excessive absence from class may cause consideration of that student not performing. For the convenience of all, many rehearsal periods have been shortened, with the intention of getting a lot done in a shorter length of time. Therefore, please be on time for rehearsals! Also be on time for pick-up, in order to continue successful social distancing at CBA! Remember that all parents are required to volunteer (per Volunteer commitment form). We thank you for your much needed help and support! Saturday, October 30 6:30-8:00................BAE Halloween – Pizza Party! Welcome back to dance! We are very grateful to have completed a successful year in 2021 by social distancing, wearing masks and disinfecting surfaces on a regular basis. Over the summer, we were able to open dressing rooms to limited numbers and to have vaccinated students attend classes mask-free. We will continue to require masks in the Lobby, dressing rooms and all common areas. Due to the recent concerns and recommendations by the Fairfax County Department of Health, ALL students must continue to wear masks in classes, as well as instructors. We will follow these recommendations until further notice. In order to keep numbers low in the Lobby and dressing rooms, try to have dancers come dressed and ready for classes, if at all possible. Dancers should arrive five to ten minutes before class time and must be picked up on time. The success of all of us remaining safe continues to depend on everyone doing their part. This is a very worthy effort for all of us, especially for our CBA students. CBA Ballet Master, Dustin Kimball, will perform a farewell performance with Bowen-McCauley Dance Company on Tuesday, September 14th at 7:00 PM. After 25 years, the company will finish off with great fanfare by performing at the Kennedy Center Eisenhower Theatre. We hope that many of you will attend this momentous event! (Due to this performance, Adv./Int. Modern class, Tuesday 5:30-6:30 PM will be cancelled on 9/14. All members of this class should attend Thursday 7:15-8:15 PM, followed by rehearsal for “When Music Speaks” at 8:15-8:30 PM.) We are thrilled to announce that the BAE will start out strong, again this year, with 40 members! We plan to perform the BAE Fall Concert at Richard Ernst Community Cultural Center, NOVA, Annandale Campus on Sunday, October 24th at 3:00 PM. We hope that all of you will come to this performance in support of the BAE! We want to congratulate BAE dancer, Kayla Estipular, on having been accepted into the Pre-Professional Training Program at The Washington Ballet for 2021-22. We are extremely proud of Kayla and excited about her future in dance! We welcome all of you back to dance at CBA, especially those who chose to take the year off in 2021. We look forward to working with all of the dancers in classes and to enjoying getting to see them perform on stage! Let’s all have a great year of dance in 2021-22! Debra SavageDirector |
