The Ballet Arts
Ensemble
The
Center for Ballet Arts is home of the "Ballet Arts Ensemble" and its
apprentices. A student may be invited to join the performing group once they
have met the following criteria: they are at least fourteen years of age,
are working at an Advanced/Intermediate level of study, and are enrolled in
at least two pointe classes, one ballet technique class, one conditioning class, and one modern dance class per
week.
A minimum of six classes is required, at which time the Choreographic
Workshop is offered free of charge. The Choreographic Workshop is a class specifically designed to provide necessary training and rehearsal time to members of "The Ballet Arts Ensemble." All members must exhibit a certain
dedication to dance by attending all classes required. Young ladies should
maintain a slim physique suitable for dance.
The Ballet Arts Ensemble performs several times each year. A Fall Concert is
offered in October and "Nutcracker in a Nutshell" is performed each
December. The Ballet Arts Ensemble has served as a member of the Fairfax
County CAPS program since 1997. It is, now, a newly inducted member of SERBA,
The South Eastern Regional Ballet Association, duly a member of RDA,
Regional Dance America.
CBA Ensemble members have been accepted to many of the nation's foremost
summer dance programs including the American Ballet Theatre, the
Boston Ballet, the Joffrey Ballet, the Pittsburgh
Ballet Theatre, the North Carolina and Virginia Schools of the Arts, the Rock School of Pennsylvania, the San Francisco Ballet, Ballet
Metropolitan, and Jacob's Pillow. Six CBA dancers have been chosen for the prestigious Virginia
Governor's School over the past seven years.
